Class Summary:
Lighting is what photography is about, but introducing your own lighting can be complicated and intimidating. This introductory class steers you away from using your on camera flash and introduces you to the world of off-camera lighting. Students will learn lighting equipment, understanding exposure/ histogram, differences between types of lights, white balance, and also get hands on shooting with off camera lighting and a subject.
By the end of class you will be comfortable with lighting terminology, interfacing with lighting equipment, how to understand exposure on your camera, and have samples of off camera lighting on your camera to look over.
Basic Requirements: Class attendee must know how to adjust manual controls on their camera, including Aperture, ISO, and shutter speed. Knowledge of how to adjust white balance will be helpful.
Equipment Required: Camera with hot shoe, memory card, please bring your flash if you wish.
Topics Covered: Off Shoe Flash, 1 Light, Hot Lights, Strobes, White Balance, Histogram, Soft and Hard Light, Tungsten vs. DB CFL, Wireless.
By the end of class you will know how to fire your flash off camera, achieve exposure based on histogram, differences between types of lights and strobes, how to light a subject with 1 flash off camera, and about lighting modifiers. You will receive hands on training from Trent Chau and his assistant and will leave with documentation covering any terminology covered along with any shots that you took during the class
This is not a modeling class. Please limit all questions about model interaction and posing to “The Model and Photographer: Interacting and posing your model” class
